Evaluation 4: Media Technologies

Image
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Above is a list of media technologies used and where I used them. Throughout the entirety of my project I used a number of different media technologies to help me with my filming and blogging. I used two different cameras, two different laptops, multiple social media sites and some photo and video editing programs. The two cameras I used were a 'Canon EOS10' and a 'GoPro Hero 3+'. The Canon was used for the shots of the bathroom scenes, angry scenes, lip-synching, tv scene, beach scenes and the swinging scene. The GoPro Hero 3+ was used for everything else, this being the things shot in Croatia, Montenegro and Mexico. I chose to use both of these cameras as they were the two best ones I have at home. The Canon is very good for high-quality shots with the lip-synching. It also fit on a tri-pod and meant I didn't have to hold it and worry about the shots turning...

Evaluation 3: Audience Feedback

Image
What have you learned from your audience feedback? Initial Ideas: The audience for the initial ideas was very varied. Although the overall consensus being that it was conventional for that Alternative Rock genre. People suggested that I should lean more to the idea of the video being set in London. They thought that would make it even more conventional. However I was very focused on the idea of it being binary opposites, the tropical 'paradise' and being at home and lonely. People liked the ideas for the lip-synching portion of the video. They thought it fits well with the song, especially the parts at the beginning. There were some things that ended up being shot down like the idea of mini-golf shots. People didn't think it was worth going through the trouble to get that one shot that may not even be used anyway. Another thing that was not implemented was the traffic ideas, it just wasn't something that would fit with other scenes in the video. Rough Cuts: The...

Evaluation 2: Effectiveness of the main product and ancillary texts

Image
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Evaluation 1: Conventions of Real Media Products

Image
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Codes and Conventions of Alternative Rock Music Videos: Costume - In an Alternative Rock music video, the character or band in the video usually wear clithign that is smart yet also casual. It means they will look nice however are not dressed up to the nines in a suit and tie. It could reflect how the band members dress normally. The colours worn are usually a bit on the darker side, they're like navy or black. Grey is also a popular colour in these types of videos. The darker colours help to conveu the themes of the song. Lighting - In a lot of Alternative Rock videos, they are shot outside at a certain location. So there is a lot of natural lighting. However the performance sides of things will be bright with the studio lights depending on the colours of the studio and the backdrop. Narrative, Performance or Abstract? -  The majority of Alternativ...

Website: Analysis of My Website Homepage

Image
Analysis of My Website The front page of my website includes three main parts, a navigation bar, header image and the music track. I kept the whole scheme very simple using only black and white colours (other than the pictures). I used wix.com to help me create my homepage, eventhough I am skilled in HTML it was just much easier and quicker to work with a template and change certain things. The top headed has two key pieces of information and three social media links. There is the email and phone number, there are aligned to the left. As we read from left to right it means we will see this information first, I think it's good because these are two very improtant parts on information. It can be used to contact the band, this being for gigs or interview opportunities. The three different sets of social media icons are for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. These are all very reliable professional types of social media. Having these sites allows a fan base interaction. It allows ...

Website: Kings Of Leon Analysis

Kings Of Leon Website Analysis Having a website within the new Web 2.0 era has become a necessity to artists and bands no matter how big or small. There are new interactive demands such as online downloads and connections to other social media, an example of a website that has been updated to meet today’s necessities is from Kings Of Leon. Nowadays, websites have become an important new way of marketing an artist and their brand. It is now not enough just to be a singer, you automatically become your own brand. This is something that can either be embraced or ignored. Most artistes embrace their brands branching out to storing a back catalogue of their previous albums on their website. Since TV programmes associated with music have become a thing of the past, people have turned to their websites and social media as a brand new marketing tool. You can now buy peoples singles and albums from their website, this contributes to total sales in the charts as well as physical sales....

Website: What makes a good Website Homepage?

What makes a good website? There are a few different things that can all add up to make a good website. If some of these are not followed the website may be unclear or have no use. Clear Information: A website must have a clear message on what it is about, the information written on the site must also be clear for those who wish to view it. If this is not fufilled, people will become confused or frustrated with the website. If this happens there could be complaints or result in some sort of loss, if it was a clothing business and it wasn't clear, they may lose customers and therefore money. Easy Navigation: This is kind of similar to the one above however, there must be a clear set navigatio bar or way of navigation around the page. You don't want the audience viewing the page to get stuck on a certain part of the website and not be able to get somewhere they actually want to be. Readable fonts and colour scheme: The website may have good content and navigation howev...

Digipak: Analysis of My Digipak

Image
Analysis of My Digipak Front Cover: As mentioned in the branding dicussion on the front cover I decided to use the colours blue and grey. The blue helps to convey the feelings of sadness, I managed to match the blue on the LEGO ® figure with the colour of the text for the word 'USE'. I also used a similar kind of blue for 'SOMEBODY' however made the shade a little lighter to break up the words a bit. I chose this  LEGO ®  figure as I feel like (out of the figures I had access to) it looks most like my character in the video. I placed the band name on the belt of the  LEGO ®  figure. I chose to do this as I think it fits nicely in that placement rather than having it sat to one side. It matches the symetry of the entire cover. Page 1: This first page includes and old piture of the character in my video as well as the same  LEGO ®  figure featured on the front cover. I decided to use an old picture of my character in the video because I would be a...

Digipak: First Designs

Image
Digipak: First Designs I had a few first designs of my digipak. I always used the photos that I have used now however I messed about with some of the text placement on the pages etc. Below are the designs I didn't choose. Front Cover: The front cover was something I thought about the most, it was the only page where I had more that three original designs. The second design out of these four was one I really considered using, the other three I wasn't as keen on. It was a toss up between that second cover and the one I decided upon. I really liked the fact of the thinner font and the thicker one. It looks very pleasing to the eye and isn't heavy. However, I didn't like that half of the LEGO figure had been cut off. Page 2: These were two designs I just couldn't get behind. There is something off with both of them which I didn't like. I think the bolder font in the second design is quite off putting and looks too heavy on the photo. It draws too much of ...

Digipak: Analysis of a Current Digipak

Image
Analysis of Current Digipak's Reputation - Taylor Swift Taylor Swift is an artist mostly known for her songwriting and country music however in November 2017 she released a Pop abulm with hints of her roots in country (' New Years Day ') and including a few tracks with more a rock vibe (' I Did Something Bad ') and others with gosepel influences (' Don't Blame Me '). The cover of this album is completely in black and white (binary opposites). It also has half of the cover with newspaper headlines. She is trying to imply that there are two sides to her, the one we see in the media (the newspaper headline side) and her actual self. There is a rip on her shirt on the left side (her actual self) this implying that she herself is not perfect but she is not what you see in the media. She is broken but has been 'sewn' back together. This matches the with a lyric on the album 'my broken bones are mending'. She is very well known for havi...
