Website: Analysis of My Website Homepage

Analysis of My Website

The front page of my website includes three main parts, a navigation bar, header image and the music track. I kept the whole scheme very simple using only black and white colours (other than the pictures). I used wix.com to help me create my homepage, eventhough I am skilled in HTML it was just much easier and quicker to work with a template and change certain things.

The top headed has two key pieces of information and three social media links. There is the email and phone number, there are aligned to the left. As we read from left to right it means we will see this information first, I think it's good because these are two very improtant parts on information. It can be used to contact the band, this being for gigs or interview opportunities. The three different sets of social media icons are for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. These are all very reliable professional types of social media. Having these sites allows a fan base interaction. It allows them to send you their thoughts on certain things like songs or albums and you can act upon their feedback. It is also a great use of promotion for the band. It has a much further reach than the website will. This is due to the creation of things like hashtags where everything is sectioned on social media. People can track and follow certain hashtags, they may stumble across the band in this way.

The next bar down has the band name which is in bold capital letters. This makes it very clear who they are, people will be able to remember it more easily as it sticks out from the page. The second bar also shows a navigation bar. A mentioned in the 'What makes a good Website Homepage?' a good navigation bar is a key feature of website homepages. There are six different options on my navigation bar, these are; 'Home', 'Listen', 'Review', 'New Video', 'Tour Dates' and 'Subscribe'. The 'Listen' section is where the audience can hear songs that the band have, they will be able to listen to them with an embedded player that is on the site. They also are able to pay for the tracks to download from this area. 'Review' will be where people's voice and opinions on songs or albums will be placed, this will mainly be qualified reviewers and people within the musical industry. You will be able to read them all whenever you desire. My music video creation will be placed in the section called 'New Music Video'. This can be updated when they have an even newer one launch. The 'Tour Dates' section will list all the shows that the band are playing, nationally and internationally. It will have links to places where they can purchase the tickets or find out more information about the shows. 'Subscribe' is a button the viewer can click if they would like email updates on the band. This something that fans may be more interested in. They will receive emails with more information each month, you may even get special deals or orders with merchandise etc.

The next part down the homepage is the original picture used on the cover and a little text announcement. Again it is kept very simple by using the black and with bold white text. It is extremely eye catching and people will not be able to look at the page without seeing it. This is a good thing to put on the front as it is engaging, it is been tested and said that the average person spends around seven seconds on a website and even if you spent two seconds on this homepage you will see a new music video it out now. This may make them want to watch it which snowballs and will give them more revenue with their views. This helps the band develop and get further in the business.

Finally, the bottom part (that i kind of cut of due to the screen shot) is a media player with the song (a single) the video is made to. I have included it on the website for the fans to listen too. They can listen for free however, to download the track they will have to pay a certain amount. Normally this will be about 99p. As it is not the most important thing on the page it is nearer the bottom although it means people may look at the page for longer than average if they want to listen to it. The picture I used with it is one from my digipak I thought I should use a different one that is already on the page to break it up a bit. I chose one with a black and white background to help with colour.
