Evaluation 3: Audience Feedback
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Initial Ideas:
The audience for the initial ideas was very varied. Although the overall consensus being that it was conventional for that Alternative Rock genre. People suggested that I should lean more to the idea of the video being set in London. They thought that would make it even more conventional. However I was very focused on the idea of it being binary opposites, the tropical 'paradise' and being at home and lonely. People liked the ideas for the lip-synching portion of the video. They thought it fits well with the song, especially the parts at the beginning. There were some things that ended up being shot down like the idea of mini-golf shots. People didn't think it was worth going through the trouble to get that one shot that may not even be used anyway. Another thing that was not implemented was the traffic ideas, it just wasn't something that would fit with other scenes in the video.
Rough Cuts:
The feedback from my rough cuts was very useful to me for the entire video. I showed people from my target audience as well as peers. They all agreed on pretty much these things, they were the main good and bad points. In result of this, I tried to choose some less shakey shots in my video however it was quite difficult when I needed shots that were dynamic and moving. I managed to fix the out of time lip-synching at the beginning. Sadly, I still was not able to use instruments, it wasn't something I or my cousin (who played the character in the video) had access to.
Digipak:
I showed my class mates some unused designs from my digipak. These are shown in the first draft post of the digipak. I didn't actually sketch any designs as I prefer to use programs like PhotoShop. I think it looks much cleaner than a drawing and for what I was doing it worked well.
I showed them my front cover designs. The favourite other than the one I chose was the design in the top right, this was my second choice too. My classmates said they liked the link between the TV scene and these pictures. They said it matches really well other than the outfit but it's okay because I couldn't change the LEGO figure. I just found the one that looked the most like him. They liked the bold and the italics of the text. You see bold on album covers however not always italic.
Final Coursework:
The feedback I was given after my video, digipak and website hompage were completed was very good. This especially being feedback from my video which can be read in the audience feedback blog post. People generally thought that everything went together really well and it was great. There were a few improvements that still remained however these being things that were out of my control for example not having instruments (as I mentioned earlier in this post). If I could go back and do it again, I would have tried to find someone who had a guitar that I could use. Maybe even a drum kit too. There were also still a few shakey shots. People really did like the digipak idea of how it is similar to that scene in the video. They liked its simplicity.
