Digipak: Analysis of a Current Digipak
Analysis of Current Digipak's
Reputation - Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is an artist mostly known for her songwriting and country music however in November 2017 she released a Pop abulm with hints of her roots in country ('New Years Day') and including a few tracks with more a rock vibe ('I Did Something Bad') and others with gosepel influences ('Don't Blame Me').
The cover of this album is completely in black and white (binary opposites). It also has half of the cover with newspaper headlines. She is trying to imply that there are two sides to her, the one we see in the media (the newspaper headline side) and her actual self. There is a rip on her shirt on the left side (her actual self) this implying that she herself is not perfect but she is not what you see in the media. She is broken but has been 'sewn' back together. This matches the with a lyric on the album 'my broken bones are mending'. She is very well known for having a 'reputation' in the media, this is something that influenced the album. It is a topic sung about through some of the lyrics in the songs; 'End Game' ('big reputation, you and me have got a big reputation') and 'Delicate' ('my reputations never been worse so he must like me for me').
The actual disk of this album is Taylor Swift's face through her fingers and hands. The CD is placed above a background which also displays the same newspaper headline print as the cover. However the picture on the CD has a type of kalidascope distortion. This is quite unclear and implies that we have a jaded view of her actual life. We only see what the news reports and speculates.
The booklet displays the lyrics to all fifteen songs on the album. This picture shows track eight and nine, 'Gorgeous' and 'Getaway Car'. The booklet is very simplistic again only having the two colours, black and white. This is the colour scheme for the album. It simply displays the lyrics and the credits for writing them.
The back cover of this album shows the complete track list as well as the barcode for the product, the porduction company logo and some album credits. It also includes a picture of Taylor Swift. The song titles are written write over her face, this may emphasising the fact that she hides behind her songs. She has a huge reputation however the only place you hear the truth is in her music. It is her way of expressing her side of the stories which are created about her. The picture is very close up and personal, implying that these songs are her inimate stories, she is giving us her personal stories. It again is also black and white, this as mentioned before follows the whole album.
