Digipak: Analysis of My Digipak
Analysis of My Digipak
Front Cover:
As mentioned in the branding dicussion on the front cover I decided to use the colours blue and grey. The blue helps to convey the feelings of sadness, I managed to match the blue on the LEGO® figure with the colour of the text for the word 'USE'. I also used a similar kind of blue for 'SOMEBODY' however made the shade a little lighter to break up the words a bit. I chose this LEGO® figure as I feel like (out of the figures I had access to) it looks most like my character in the video. I placed the band name on the belt of the LEGO® figure. I chose to do this as I think it fits nicely in that placement rather than having it sat to one side. It matches the symetry of the entire cover.
Page 1:
This first page includes and old piture of the character in my video as well as the same LEGO® figure featured on the front cover. I decided to use an old picture of my character in the video because I would be a fun way to brighten up the digipak as the other photos each have a black and white background. I added the LEGO® figure to follow through with the same idea I had on the front page. I thought it would add a little something different to the picture rather than it being just a picture with words on it. I again much like the front cover used the same colour on both lines of writing however the bottom line has a slightly higher opacity. This making it more prominent, it is the most important word of the two lines.
Page 2:
This page also follows the theme of all the previous pages and includes the LEGO® figure however this page also has all of the lyrics to the song. I used the bold title to ensure that the person reading it is aware of the name of the song. For the lyrics I used a slightly greyer colour, this helped it contrast much better with the title, it all looked too busy in jet black. To the right of the page I have included who the song was written by (The Followill's) and another LEGO® man. I included this picture here as I thought he looked kind of sad and in distress, maybe because he could 'Use Somebody'.
Page 4:
This page is kind of similar to the one before it, it is just the little LEGO® figure at a concert again. I shot it in the exact same way as the one before. I liked the idea of him copying what was being done in the photo, like he actually was there. Again the reason for the background being changed to black and white wasn't totally my choice but I did like it after I edited it that way. I think this works really well with my project as the whole song is about needing someone and LEGO® figures could be seen as lonely as they're inanimate objects.
Back Cover:
My back cover is one of the original picture I took to use for the cover photo. I thought I could use it for the back cover as it is like a variation of the front. I really liked how it was out of focus. It means we can focus on the text on the back of it i.e. the song name. I also included the record company in the bottom left corner. I didn't include a barcode however it would be placed on the right side in the bottom corner.

Page 3:
This page was fairly simple to shoot, I just held the LEGO® figure infront of my laptop screen which had a picture of a conert. I thought this was a funny idea just to put in for fun. I liked his face and the fact that is generally how I feel at concerts, especially if it's standing. I had to make the background black and white not totally out of choice because there was a slight glare on the screen and you could see the dust on the screen. It just looked better in black and white, after I edited it I really liked it.
