Intended Audience
Intended Audience
The intended audience for my video are majority male who will most likely be in their 30's to 40's within an ABC1 demographic. As the members of the band are around that age, (the oldest being 38 and the youngest being 30) they will most likely attract people who are like them. Kings Of Leon began in 2002 when the intended audience would have been in their late teens and early 20's. Their fans and people who like their music have grown up with them. There will of course be some exceptions to this audience, there are a lot of teenagers who also like their music and some women do too. However this is not their target audience they're predominantly selling to.
The character in my video is in his 20's and could also be part of the intended target audience. I used him to allow people watching my video to relate or if they're younger, inspire. He is wearing simple and normal clothes, no big brands. This makes his style a bit more achievable to those watching, fans can 'get the look' so to speak. The locations of these videos are also places where people could go and visit. People of the characters age may own their own flat (this is relatable) and been to a beach, arcade etc. It is also more than likely that the audience will be able to relate to emotions shown in the video as most 25 year olds would have gone through some sort of heartbreak, even if it's not girlfriend or boyfriend related.
To get a better idea of my audience I created a questionnaire. This questionnaire consisted of numerous questions about my data subject. I had 10 responses which allowed me to analyse and think some more about my audience.
Question 1: How old are you?
5/10 people were between the ages of 18-25
3/10 people were below the age of 18
2/10 people were over the age of 40
Question 2: What is your gender?
5/10 people were male
4/10 people were female
1/10 people prefered not to say
Question 3: What is your favourite music genre?
4/10 people said Pop
4/10 people said Rock
2/10 people said R&B
Question 4: What do you watch a music video for?
7/10 people said Entertainment
3/10 people said Narrative
Question 5: Do you have a favourite video and what is it?
This question was not required so therefore I did not receive all 10 responses but 4/10 people did put a link to a video. These were:
- Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87gWaABqGYs)
- Thriller by Michael Jackson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOnqjkJTMaA)
- 7/11 by Beyonce (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSAOsm1u-OE)
- Radioactive by Kings Of Leon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPBbMbKSZrQ)
From this, it helped me gain more insight into what the people who will be watching the music video like. They are more focused on the entertainment side of the video rather than a narrative, this means it is something I do not necessarily have to heavily focus on. It also shows me that the same amount of people liked Pop as Rock meaning that the videos for Rock artists will be almost as successful as those for a Pop artist, this obviously depends on who that artist is and how big they are.
