Seeking Permission
Seeking Permission
When using someone else's song you must get permission from them or the copyright holder, this is normally the band or artist's record label. This is to ensure no legal action will be made against you. If they grant you permission you are allowed to use it however if they do not, you can't. For my music video I wrote a short little email to Kings of Leon's record company requesting I can use their song for my project.
Dear Copyright Holder at RCA Records,
I am writing to you today to request permission to use "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon for an upcoming A-Level coursework project. With your permission this track will be used for educational purposes which involves creating a music video and a digipak for the artist. I will not receive any financial gain from using this song, as previously stated it is just for educational uses. The final video will only be seen by my classmates, a teacher and the examining board. The artist will be fully recognised and given credit throughout the entire production.
Yours Faithfully,
Amy Owen
